This section shows stamps depicting punched cards. A punched card is an obsolete storage medium, it is a card that represents data in the form of punched holes. Originally used in the 19th century for controlling textile looms, it was adapted by Herman Hollerith in order to process US 1890 Census data. He founded in 1896 the Tabulating Machine Company that became part of IBM in 1924. Punched cards were the main computers storage medium until 1960's. A common format of punched card was the IBM 80-column.
